Storm World: Ascension is a closed-ended, turn-based strategy/combat game where you take the role
of a Realm Character (RC) - an adventurer - who embarks on a campaign for fame and
fortune. Your knowledge and abilities will be tested against the creatures of the
realm and the other adventureres who wish to control it. Though each game is closed-ended,
your character builds upon each game by advancing attributes, knowledge and posessions. Those
advancements benefit you immediately and in subsequent games.
The game takes place on a section of Storm World. The map is restricted to only
16x12 grids (1 day travel per grid) centered around one of 10 major cities. There are a number
of locations inside the map in addition to the primary city (which acts as the starting
point). The goal is to explore as much of the map as possible, collect treasure and items, defeat
hostile adversaries and dominate your opponents. Quests are encountered and can be solved,
leading to treasure, items or another quest.
Each game set in Storm World: Ascension will last 20 turns. Turns will be processed
twice a week, on Saturday evening at 9PM CST and on Wednesday evening at 9PM CST.
This means the game will last a total of 10 real-world weeks. Each turn itself is
made up of 8 days time in Storm World.
New games will begin shortly after the current game ends, and some games will run
concurrently, allowing you to constantly adventure. Any items and experience
you gain in one adventure carries over to the next as your RC ascends to new levels.
Your challenge will be to decide which powers, spells, abilities and equipment will
best provide an advantage over others in the game. Note that realm characters of
any level may be participating in a given game. This may pose a disadvantage to
the lower level player at first, but rewards are proportionately larger at the end
of the game.
Objectives
You are competing against other players in each game. Although they may not be the direct source of conflict
(enemies can be found in all areas of the map), your actions indirectly apply against what others are doing.
The leader boards will be updated each turn to show where you are at and how others rank against you. Collecting
treasure, defeating monsters, battling other players, clearing lairs and solving side-quests all contribute towards
your Realm Character's score.
The RC Score is what is used to measure you against other players. It is also used to advance your realm character
within the game. As your score increases, you get to increase your attribute scores. The base objective of the
game is to gain the highest relative score.
Since it is possible that newer players could be in the same game as players with much more experience, the game
score is weighted based on difficulty. A weaker realm character facing a much strong realm character will get
a score bonus which may be substantial compared to what the stronger realm character gets. This way, newer
players are still able to compete against others fairly.
Of course, newer players who face stronger players may not win many PvP battles (player-vs-player). However,
there are no detriments to losing other than gaining a lower score. There is NO CHANCE of character death
in Ascension (hirelings can die, of course). This way, it is beneficial to get into as many combats as possible.
Since you will always gain something (more experience, at a minimum) and you will never lose gold or items
which would not be expended in the normal course of play anyway.
Note that random monsters as well as lair creatures are based on the strength of the realm character that encounters
them. This way, non-PvP battles will always be fairly balanced (even though a certain element of randomness will
always be present).
Good luck!
