As you adventure through the game, a number of game features will be revealed. Listed below
are the standard ones which you will see frequently enough that an explanation should be given.
Note, however, that there are hidden features which will have explanations when you encounter
them.
Treasure
Whenever an encounter occurs with a non-RC (that is, with a creature that is NOT controlled
by another player), a victory can bring a chance at treasure. If treasure resulted, it will be
noted in the RC log, and displayed in the RC "control panel" located on the left-side of the page.
Treasure can include almost anything in the game. It frequently involves some amount of gold, but
it could also include potions, weapons, armor, shields, miscellaneous mystical items, new abilities and
more.
Guilds
There are dozens of guilds in the game that interact with you on any given week. The guilds which
are active for a specific campaign is dependant upon the location of the campaign in question (only
certain guilds have influence in certain locations). When they contact you, they usually bring
something to sell. This can be any number of items, but it could include new skills or knowledge of
hidden locations.
If you purchase what they are selling, the guild will return with more items to sell sooner than
if you do not purchase something from them. Also, guilds which are favorable towards you are more
likely to visit frequently. Items purchased are immediately availalbe for you to use.
Guilds will also send you messages from time to time. Typically this includes combat against an
enemy which you can either accept or reject. Sometimes more requirements must be met and all actions
will have an effect on your reputation and fame.
Locations
Each game will have a number (16-20) of locations which are spread out on the map. Realm characters
begin at a city designated as the starting grid. This starting location is not hidden, nor are one or
two other locations when the game begins. All other locations are only revealed by passing within
one grid of them. Once seen, they will be visible on the map and listed next to it.
Finding these locations in critical to winning the game. Most locations contain encounters, providing
a score bonus regardless of victory (although a victorius encounter yields a higher score). Some
locations also have game quests associated with them. Solving all quests provide a large score bonus.
In addition, the order you find and enter these locations (compared to other realm characters playing the
game) grants a gold bonus. Exploration of the map itself grants a score bonus as well.
Messages
An in-game messaging system allows you to communicate with other players within the game. Messages
can be sent at anytime between turns. You will be notified of a new message at the top of the
screen where a "NEW!" flag will appear next to the messages link.
It is possible for third parties to send messages during processing as well. You are given choices
to respond or ignore to them as well. Your response, or lack thereof, will affect your fame and
reputation. It may also have in-game effects which lead to other quests.
All messages from other players will drop off after 3 months. Messages from in-game personalities
will be removed by the end of the game.
Open Market
No game would be complete without a barter system in place. As you adventure, you can come across
wonderful new items and unlock obscure new powers. Since this may give you an item of ability which
others may desire, it is only fair that we allow you to trade them.
Items can be traded as desired. Once you post the item for sale, it gets listed on the open market
for all to bid on. Other players make bids for the item, and you can accept any bid at anytime. (Note
that once one bid is accepted, the others are automatically rejected.) The item changes hands
immediately. Note also that you can only place an item on the open market when it is NOT active! Once
on the open market, you are not able to activate the item for the coming turn.
Unlocked abilities can be traded away as well. Note that you can only trade away an unlocked ability
once - so make sure you get enough value for it. This is done to help insure that rare abilities
do not proliferate among everybody. Once traded, the ability can be used by the buyer right away.
When you wish to buy something on the open market, you have a choice of what to offer. You could offer
gold only. However, you could enhance that offer by offering an item or an unlocked ability that you own.
(Note that you cannot offer an unlocked ability that you have already traded away - see above.)
Note that you are not restricted to trading items with other characters in the same game. Any realm character
can place an item for sale, and any other realm character can bid for it; even if the character is not currently
in a game. This way, realm characters can still be involved even when between game sessions.
